FAQ
Walking with Moms in Need (WWMIN) is an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) launched in 2020. WWMIN is envisioned as a process through which Catholic parishes and communities accompany pregnant and parenting moms in need. Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
Walking with Moms in Need seeks to answer St. John Paul II’s call to evaluate how the Church serves mothers facing difficulties:
“With great openness and courage, we need to question how widespread is the culture of life today among individual Christians, families, groups and communities in our Dioceses. With equal clarity and determination, we must identify the steps we are called to take in order to serve life in all its truth.” (EV 95)
Walking with Moms in Need is not designed to compete with ongoing pregnancy resource ministries, but rather to enhance and unify our efforts. Together, we can work towards the day when any pregnant or parenting mom of young children in need can turn to her nearby Catholic Church and be connected to a community that is supportive and non-judgmental.
Moms in need could include family members, relatives, friends, acquaintances, neighbors, co-workers, students, and any woman who is pregnant or parenting young children in difficult circumstances. She may feel frightened, alone, and unsure where to turn. You could be the support that she needs to make a life-affirming decision and avoid a lifetime of regret. You could save a life!
St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish has developed a list of resources to help pregnant and parenting moms in need. Click on the Local Resources button to learn about the services and tangible support that are available in our area. You can also call our helpline between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday at 999-999-9999 and you will be contacted by a member of our Walking with Moms team. All calls are confidential. Additionally, you can click on the I NEED HELP button at the top of our page to complete a short form and you will be contacted by a member of our Walking with Moms support team.
As Catholics, we understand the irreplaceable roles fathers have in the family. They are providers, protectors, nurturers, and role models for their children. In no way do we diminish fatherhood or suggest that fathers are not important. We do encourage couples counseling and family counseling. In our resources, one can find counseling assistance to help meet the needs of struggling families.
However, WWMIN tries to meet the needs of women facing challenging pregnancies. The sad reality today is that most women facing challenging pregnancies are unmarried. In fact, nearly 86% are unmarried. That is what is most common – not finances, employment, or race. They are seriously lacking the relational support of a spouse. The Catholic Church wants to support women facing challenging pregnancies or vulnerable parenting moms, no matter their background. We want women to know they can turn to the Catholic Church for support.
No. Walking with Moms does not discriminate, and we will help any pregnant or parenting mom who is facing a challenging situation. We will support you and walk with you until you can walk alone. Currently, we are assisting moms in the Easton area.
